In November 2023 Susan Respinger and myself had the amazing opportunity to work with Aspen Group to design and install this HUGE mural on Guildford Rd in Maylands, WA.
The Cove, an apartment complex originally built in the 1960s and now boasting a newly completed renovation, stands as a testament to modernised living.
Our mural pays homage to the building’s original architectural style while infusing it with contemporary flair. Instead of completely overhauling the building’s appearance, Aspen Group’s goal was to rejuvenate its original design to resonate with modern preferences.
The mural merges the nostalgic charm of the 1960s with the vibrancy of today’s generation, incorporating a fresh burst of colour inspired by past eras yet still relevant today.
We invite viewers to admire the mural’s intricate details, drawing inspiration from 1960s space-age and futurism aesthetics, incorporating asymmetry, sleek curves, and smooth lines to establish an iconic identity for the building. Additionally, inspired by popular 1960s cartoons such as The Jetsons, Marmaduke, and Scooby Doo, we have crafted a whimsical design reminiscent of the atomic design era.
This artwork symbolises the completion of The Cove’s renovation, transforming it into a space for new beginnings. It aims to captivate both older and younger generations by tapping into the fascination with the space age and contemporary technological advancements.
